From the TVLC Creation Care Ministry:

Recycling correctly takes a little bit of work, but it is well worth the effort. Here are a few tips to help make it a bit easier for you.

Plastic bags, bubble wrap, or other plastic wraps do not go in the blue barrel. Most grocery stores as well as Home Depot, and Lowes have containers near the front entrances where those items can be recycled. The grocery stores I checked with confirmed those plastic items are sent to companies that reuse them in many creative ways. For example, the bench outside the church office is made from plastic bags courtesy of confirmand Gabe.

If you live within the Tucson city limits, you cannot put glass in your blue barrel. You must take your glass to one of the Purple glass recycling containers at various locations around town. To find the one nearest you go to this website:  Glass Reuse Plan | Official website of the City of Tucson (tucsonaz.gov)

If you live outside the Tucson city limits, please check with the company that picks up your recycling for glass instructions. For instance, the company that picks up recycling in my neighborhood does allow glass to be placed in the blue tub.

Remember to rinse and clean your recycling before placing it in the blue tub. Dirty, soiled, greasy items in a blue tub contaminate the whole load with it ending up at the dump rather than being reused. Curses, mission failed!

Remember,  your empty aluminum cans can be recycled at TVLC. No need to crush them either. Just look for the can recycling tub located outside the Sanctuary doors.   Also offered at TVLC is recycling for your used eyeglasses, cell phones, and both used and new printer cartridges of all brands except Epson. There are donation boxes for each in the church office workroom. Note that we cannot recycle the large printer toner cartridges, but they can be left for recycling at Suburban Miners.

TVLC, The City of Tucson, and Pima County recyclers have tried to make it as easy as possible for you to recycle. When in doubt, don’t toss it out. Call the city or your local recycler before tossing in the trash.

Happy Recycling!
