Would you like to fill some time during these long, hot summer days and be a blessing to others, all while staying safe at home? The Pima County Health Department is asking for help from the Tucson community for its recently launched “Pima Love Notes” project.

Pima Love Notes aims to spread joy to people who can’t have visitors due to coronavirus safety measures. Supportive cards, letters, and messages sent to residents and staff in long term and assisted living facilities remind our neighbors that they are not alone.

Pima County Health Director Dr. Theresa Cullen acknowledges the negative impact of isolation on residents in these facilities and said that sending a caring message is a way to show support and compassion for these community members. “This is really designed to enable you, even if you don’t have a loved one in assisted living or long term care, to reach out to them … and let them know that you care, let them know that people are thinking about them,” Cullen said.

The health department has compiled a list of nearly 50 facilities that are accepting notes. Guidelines to ensure safety, ideas for preparing notes, and downloadable cards and coloring pages are available. Of course, you can create your own cards as well.

“This is an important time in our community to show our compassion and our caring for each other,” Cullen said. “This is a small way that any member of the community should be able to do that.”
