Dear TVLC family,

Pastor Josh will be taking a sabbatical from May 16-July 24.

In our pastors’ Letters of Call there is a provision for a 2-month sabbatical following five years of service. This includes a commitment to remain at the congregation for a full year following the return from sabbatical. Pastor Josh is currently approaching 8 years of service at TVLC, but recent years have not provided an ideal opportunity for him to take such a time away.

A sabbatical is an extended period of time for refreshment and renewal intended to enrich one’s continued service to a congregation. The word sabbatical has its roots in the biblical concept of sabbath. It is a time to be refreshed in body, mind, and spirit and to deepen one’s relationship with God.

Pastor Josh plans to spend a lot of time connecting with God in creation, including visiting multiple national parks and retreating with his family to a friend’s cabin in Northern Minnesota. Some vacation time visiting family in the Midwest will come at the end of his time away.

Pastor Stephen and the staff will work to fill in Pastor Josh’s normal responsibilities while he is gone, and we will have some familiar faces helping out with weekly preaching.
