TVLC is filled with remarkable people. Because of the number and size of our services, we often miss out on meeting folks or having the opportunity to get to know them. Today we’ll meet the Hansen-Hudson family.

About you?
Kris Hansen and John Hudson have one son, Josh, who is a retired Marine. They have 2 grandsons, John Wyatt and Aiden, who just graduated Junior College and high school, respectively. Josh is married to Kelly who has 2 daughters, Selena and Caylin.

Kris moved from Tinley Park, Illinois to Tucson when she was 10 years old. John grew up in Magnolia, Mississippi and discovered Tucson when he wed Kris. (When you talk to John, you’ll still hear his Mississippi roots!)

Military service is a large part of Kris’ and John’s families. Three of the 4 kids in Kris’ family served in the Air Force as well as her 2 oldest nieces. Kris and John met while stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. They wed 6 months later. They were stationed in Germany for 3½ years and in England for 3½ years — where Josh was born. After their discharges, John worked for the United States Postal Service in Tucson and Kris went back to the UA for her degree in education. She worked for TUSD and retired as an elementary school principal.

Hobbies?
John loves golfing and reading novels by J.A. Jance, a local author. Kris walks/runs — which are both at about the same pace according to Kris. She also bikes and reads “just about anything.” They enjoy traveling in their RV and spending time with family. They have a new hobby of feeding birds in their backyard.

Pets?
John and Kris have two golden retrievers. Annie Marie Oakley is almost 10 years old and Laura Lee is almost 11. They also enjoy the “wild critters” who visit their yard — javelinas, hawks, coyotes, roadrunners, and a bobcat and occasional desert tortoise.

Hidden talents?
John can flip and catch coasters off a table. Kris is usually able to “put one foot in front of the other” and has the knack for getting lost “anywhere, anytime, and in any environment.” Kris claims this is a gift and can lead to new discoveries including an amazing bridge she found in Germany.

Favorite TVLC memory?
John and his sister, Emma, rediscovered their love for worshipping together during the pandemic. Emma, who still lives in Magnolia, lamented when her church had no in-person services and no livestream capability. For 10 months, John would call Emma each Sunday and play TVLC’s livestream services over his phone.

Kris and John are very happy to have found TVLC, which they describe as “warm, welcoming, and active.”
