TVLC is filled with remarkable people. Because of the number and size of our services, we often miss out on meeting folks or having the opportunity to get to know them. Today we’ll meet the Berglund family.
About you?
John and Cyndi Berglund have two adult children and three grandchildren. Their son, Tyler, lives in Honolulu, HI and enjoys island life. Their daughter, Rachelle, is married to Scott Crumrine. Rachelle and Scott have 3 children: Solana (8), Beckett (6), and Niko (2 ½). They live in Carlsbad, CA.
John and Cyndi both grew up in Minneapolis, MN. Cyndi graduated St. Cloud State University and started her career as a Physical Education teacher and basketball and volleyball coach. John is a graduate of Valparaiso University in Indiana with a law degree from the University of San Diego. (John claims he graduated in the top 5% of his law school class in beach activities!) He started his career as a prosecutor in Minnesota.
The Berglunds love people and enjoy traveling as is seen in the many places and climates where they’ve lived. They began their married life in Minneapolis.
From Minneapolis the Berglunds relocated to Hudson, WI and created, owned and operated a historic B & B called the Phipps Inn along the St. Croix River. They enjoyed meeting people from all parts of the world and learning about other cultures and traditions.
From there, the couple moved to Atlanta, GA and lived on 3.5 acres in the woods. They were happy to escape snowfall, explore the woods, and enjoy a small lake and native wildlife.
Moving westward, John and Cyndi relocated to Arlington, TX. They enjoyed their neighborhood, church and exploring the vast state.
On their next move, John and Cyndi moved to St. Martin, a multicultural island in the Caribbean. They semiretired while starting a perfumery and boutique business, which became a popular tourist destination. In 2017, the island was devastated by Hurricane Irma and their home was destroyed.
So how did they get to Tucson? The Berglund’s goal was to find a place for their home without snow, tornados or hurricanes. Happily, friends recommended Tucson for its beautiful weather, hiking trails, and proximity to their grandchildren in Carlsbad. They’ve been here for 4 years.
Hidden talents?
John is a great mediator, multitasker and debater. Cyndi’s nickname is “MacGyver” because she likes to repair or repurpose things. An early assessment test told her she should become a mechanic!
Why do you go to church?
Cyndi believes she and John are closer spiritually from worshipping together. They enjoy the presence of children in church and they love how the sermons touch their lives. Cyndi appreciates God’s constant and enduring love and forgiveness and the opportunity to join in prayer for others as well as for selves. Cyndi sums up their gratitude for being part of our faith community: “We feel so blessed to be a part of the congregation at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church.”
Have you enjoyed getting to know the Berglunds a little bit better? Can we share your story? We’d love to hear from you! Contact VickieDenning@tvlc.org
