Pastor Stephen Hilding is the Associate Pastor of TVLC.

Why work in a church?

Pastor Stephen says that the church is a place that allows you to be authentically you. Whether you are doing well or finding yourself at what feels like a dead-end, the church is God’s family where we support, care for and encourage one another. The church is not only a place that you can do much more collectively than individually, it is also a place where these possibilities are amplified by the call to serve God. The beauty of the church is that it is a combination of people and a call being met by God’s ability to do “far more than we can ask for or even imagine.”

What do you like most about your job?

Pastor Stephen enjoys being able to join with our incredible staff and congregation and experience “Holy Ground Moments.” Whether it is celebrating God’s joy in moments of excitement or clinging to God’s promises during hardship and grief, he cherishes the privilege of accompanying people as we walk together in faith.

Favorite church memory?

Pastor Stephen’s favorite memories from the last few months include listening sessions and starting projects with families for the Tevah project.

What’s a typical day like for you?

Pastor Stephen loves the variety that each day brings — connecting with people, partnering, planning, reading and doing a little “dreaming.”

About you?

Pastor Stephen was born in Litchfield, MN, and grew up in Hudson, WI. He went to Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, and Luther Seminary in St. Paul. He is married to Annie.

Dogs or cats?

Pastor Stephen and Annie have two dogs. Arthur is an Irish Wolfhound mix and George is an Australian Shepherd mix.

Hidden talent?

Pastor Stephen’s hidden talent is longboarding! For those who aren’t familiar, longboards are similar to skateboards, but are more stable. Pastor Stephen, taught his dog, George, to run alongside him in a harness when George was a puppy. Now Pastor Stephen says George gets very excited to go and pulls Pastor Stephen for the first stretch making it a “free ride!”

Happiest doing when you’re not working?

Pastor Stephen enjoys spending time with Annie and the dogs, talking with family and friends, hiking, playing tennis, DIY projects, and music.

Inspiration?

Pastor Stephen is inspired when he sees people in their true element — giving it their all. He notes that God has given each one of us really unique gifts, ones that continue to amaze him at TVLC.
