TVLC is filled with remarkable people. Because of the number and size of our services, we often miss out on meeting folks or having the opportunity to get to know them. Today we’ll meet Connie Mallette and her daughter, Marilyn Craig.
About you?
Connie and Marilyn make up the Mallette household in Tucson. Tom, Connie’s husband and Marilyn’s father, passed away last September. Connie has two other daughters, Karen and Lisa, who live in Denver. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren live in Denver and Seattle.
Connie and Tom moved to Tucson in 1979, when Tom was transferred here by IBM, which at that time was humorously rumored to stand for “I’ve Been Moved.”
Marilyn went to Sahuaro High School, the University of Texas at Austin, and then spent 30 years in the Bay area of California. Marilyn moved back to Tucson in 2018 to be a caregiver and companion to her parents.
Connie and Marilyn claim their primary vocation is “taking care of each other!” Before she retired, Connie was a computer programmer/systems analyst for Hughes (now Raytheon) and Marilyn still does freelance analytics for various retail and financial services companies.
Hobbies?
Connie and Marilyn are avid knitters. They enjoy watching mystery/crime television shows while knitting blankets for Project Linus — which provides new handmade blankets to children in need, sweaters for a Navajo school, and other creative projects. Connie takes her knitting wherever she goes and Marilyn has been known to knit in work meetings.
Pets?
Connie and Marilyn admit that their home is ruled by 3 yellow tabby cat sisters, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma.
Favorite TVLC memory?
The Mallette family joined TVLC in 1979. Marilyn was active in the youth group until she left for college and has fond memories of sleepovers in the sanctuary, which is now the chapel, and camping trips to Spencer Canyon near Mount Lemmon. Connie says she has always felt loved and at home at TVLC, even when the church faced challenging times.
