What does the ELCA teach about the nature and function of government in relation to God’s purposes? What is a faithful Lutheran response regarding citizenship and civic engagement?
The ELCA has prepared the draft of a social message addressing these questions, currently titled “A Social Message on Government and Civic Engagement: Discipleship in a Democracy.” This writing project was requested by the 2019 Churchwide Assembly and will be considered for adoption at the June 2020 meeting of the ELCA Church Council.
From now until May 27, ELCA members are invited to provide feedback on this draft message. You can read the entire document and directions on how to participate by completing a survey or by emailing comments.
